I was watching the wpt a few nights ago and was so inspired by 2 very different styles of poker play. Q Tip is a internet player who is one of the most agressive players I have ever seen. Along with the nickname Q Tip the announcers also nicknamed him atc (any two cards) because this guy was firing out raising and re-raising no matter what he was holding pre- flop. He almost went bust a few times but ended up winning the tournament and a a huge cash prize over a million dollars. Throughout the final table the player he ended up going heads up with was playing his most conservative game that I had ever seen. Nicknamed “the mouth” he is one of the most colourful players talkwise on the circuit today. He showed such patience but his reads were sadly off when he could have taken in some big pots. I was so inspired to hit the tables after this show and see about putting some of what I had learned into action. The funny (and maddening) thing about poker is that you can do everything right and still lose the hand. Aggression is a big part of the game once you’ve made a move. Stick to your guns when you feel you are strong and don’t back down. Take a moment to make sure the pieces fit before your next action and trust your good instincts! How did I do that night? Well, I knocked 3 players out and sadly lost my all in with pocket nines vs A Q. The player who called me flopped his ace and it held up so I just missed going to final table.
